Our policy on child protection is in accordance with “Children First – National Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children” and Data Protection regulations as set out in The General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679.
All staff and contractors of VLIX whom may have direct contact with children will be Garda Vetted through Create-Ireland. All staff have also completed Tusla and Children Firsts – National Child Protection and Welfare Guidance Training, a programme set out by The HSE, Tusla and The Department of Children and Youth Affairs.
The Designated Liaison Person acts as a liaison with outside agencies and a resource person to any staff member, subcontractor or volunteer who has child protection concerns. The Designated Liaison Person is responsible for reporting allegations or suspicions to Family Agency Tusla or An Garda Siochana.
VLIX has put in place a standard reporting procedure for dealing with disclosures, concerns or allegations of child abuse. The designated Liaison Person (DLP) is Michael McCarthy – [email protected]
Reporting procedure for dealing with disclosures, concerns or allegations of child abuse:
> The employee or volunteer who has received a disclosure of child abuse or who has concerns about a child should bring them to the attention of the Designated Liaison Person immediately.
> Under no circumstances should a child be left in a situation that exposes him or her to harm or of risk to harm pending Tusla intervention. In the event of an emergency where you think a child is in immediate danger and you cannot get in contact with Tusla, you should contact the Gardaí. This may be done through any Garda station.
> Were the Designated Liaison Person considers that a child protection or welfare concern meets the reasonable grounds for concern criteria outlined below, then the Designated Liaison Person can refer to Tusla.
VLIX will avoid direct contact with children in the course of work where possible, all staff will also use appropriate behaviour when working at all times.
VLIX will gain permission from each school/college/organisation before undertaking filming of any show/performance/event and will work in accordance with that school/college/organisations child protection policy.
Although VLIX retains the copyright of every recorded show/performance/event, we will never use video/photo of your children for promotion purpose without the school/college/organisation authorisation. Promotion includes but is not limited to: Website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media platforms.
VLIX is dedicated to safeguarding children by protecting our recorded video/motion picture files. Raw video footage of live performance will only be edited and accessible by staff/contractors of VLIX in the course of work i.e. editing, authoring etc. Raw footage will be stored on site on our servers indefinitely.
All duplications/replications of show/performance/event DVDs/USBs/MP4’s are produced in-house by our staff. In a case where we would require outside duplication/replication by a company, we would ensure both our Child Protection Policies and Data Protection Policies are in line with each other.
Show/Performance/Event DVDs/USBs/MP4s may be available for purchase on the VLIX website – When products are available for purchase on the website, VLIX is unable to verify all purchasers. Our online terms and conditions state that only family members of those involved in the show/performance/event may purchase a DVD/USB/MP4.
Under the Data Protection Act, every person has a right to establish the existence of personal data, to have access to any such data relating to him and to have inaccurate data rectified or erased.
VLIX Data Controller (Michael McCarthy – [email protected]) will ensure that data that is collected fairly, is accurate and up-to-date, is kept for lawful purposes and is not used or disclosed in any manner incompatible with those purposes. All data in relation to child protection records collected will be stored in a safe and confidential manner in a secure, locked cabinet.
VLIX will ensure all staff/subcontractors are recruited with the utmost care. We will ensure all staff have sufficient training for their roles and can provide a safe environment for children should they come in contact with them in the line of work. We will clearly outline the role when advertised and will select the most qualified and suitable candidate. Any high-risk candidates would not be eligible for recruitment.
